The 'Whipping Boy' Cassette EP from Wives is their last effort with drummer Tim Guthrie. The three tracks are set as a 'trilogy' drawing from themes relating to Australian history and the landscape.
Side B features remixes of the first three tracks, which see them reworked into a churning, mechanical odyssey. The unique styles of the artists work well together to create a disturbing re-imagining of the original trilogy.
A bonus improvised track 'Doomsday' is including with purchase.

This Australian art-pop band's previous releases were quirky and certainly interesting but it is on this breakthrough record that they perfected their sound. They have gotten slightly more accessible without loosing their oddness. The first half of this album is brilliant. Art Fin
